What's different about the Flight Deck Wingman Sim Prep?
The Traditional Sim Prep Model
Traditionally, sim assessment has focused solely on a candidate’s ability to manually fly the aircraft. However, airlines are increasingly keen to assess the other pilot competencies which we know are vital for the safe operation of modern day aircraft. In one large airline’s recent sim assessment campaign, only 3% of candidates failed solely because of their manual flying!
The Flight Deck Wingman Sim Prep Model. Up-to-date training methods!
Flight Deck Wingman has taken the typical and outdated sim assessment training format offered by most airline prep companies and re-designed it, making it fit for purpose for current airline selection processes.
Sim assessment pilot competencies.
Our Simulator Assessment Preparation Training introduces how to use the pilot competencies – critical to a successful assessment. We explore what these competencies are, how they can be developed and most importantly how they can be effectively utilised to afford you the best chance of being successful in your simulator assessment.
Evidenced based training.
As airlines accelerate towards Evidence Based Training (EBT) to train pilots, so the recruitment phase has moved to align with this training methodology. Our course will help you understand this shift in training methodology and how to ‘evidence’ the competencies leading to a successful simulator assessment.
Be Assessed With Confidence!
Techniques Not Tip Offs! Approximately 95% of our clients are successful…
…with the pre-simulator phase of their assessment. Why, you may ask? Where some companies attempt to replicate and “tip off” their clients as to what a specific airline recruitment process might be, we approach our training with reliable and easy to use “techniques” to be successful with any airline or operator.
We have applied the same training methodology into our simulator assessment preparation training too, meaning that you can enter any simulator assessment process with any airline, with total confidence!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you want to know more about how our pilot simulator assessment preparation training courses can help you pass these crucial stages of any airline simulator assessment?
Will this simulator assessment preparation course help me to pass any pilot simulator assessment?
Yes! We use the very latest Evidence Based Training (EBT) training techniques being used by airlines to recruit and train their pilots. These techniques will ensure that you enter any pilot simulator assessment process with total confidence that you know how you are being assessed and more importantly, how to succeed!
Why do airlines use simulator assessments?
Airlines frequently use simulator assessments as part of their recruitment processes. The aim of this simulator assessment is to determine if you are likely to pass a type-rating course in the minimum course footprint and not represent a training risk to the airline both now and in the future.
What is contained in a pilot simulator assessment?
Most airline simulator assessments usually follow a similar theme. You will almost certainly be assessed against the IATA pilot competencies and a scenario will be devised to help assess these competencies. It will usually be manually flown using “raw data”. Some use of the autopilot may be allowed. The scenario will usually contain an element designed to spike your/the crews workload. The Flight Deck Wingman simulator assessment preparation course has been specifically designed around training you to evidence the IATA pilot competencies in a pilot simulator assessment.
What aircraft simulator do you use for training?
Our training is designed around the pilot competencies. Whilst it can be helpful to jump into a flight simulator for some practice, we know that it’s usually the non-technical competencies that cause pilots to fail their sim assessment. That’s why our course is delivered online and doesn’t include any simulator time.
