Frequently Asked Questions

Airline interviews typically draw on a few recognisable categories of question: getting-to-know-you questions, scenario-based questions, questions about the industry and the specific company, competency-based questions, and a closing “any questions for us?” stage. Each is looking for something slightly different, and knowing what that is makes all the difference to how you respond. Our course trains you in clear techniques for tackling questions across every one of these categories, so you’re ready for whatever comes up.

Because flying is a team activity, and no amount of technical skill makes up for poor teamwork on the flight deck. A group exercise lets recruiters see how you actually behave with others – how you communicate, listen, influence and contribute under pressure – in a way an interview simply can’t. It’s one of the most revealing parts of an assessment, which is exactly why airlines rely on it and why it’s worth preparing for properly.

You can’t know in advance exactly what a group exercise will involve, so the best preparation is understanding the process rather than rehearsing anything. That means learning how these exercises work, what recruiters are actually assessing, and how to effectively evidence competencies throughout whatever the task turns out to be. Our coaching gives you clear, repeatable techniques for exactly that, so you walk in knowing how to add value and stand out for the right reasons.

Thoroughly, and well in advance! Starting early is one of the best things you can do. You’ll want to make sure your technical knowledge, your company knowledge, and your ability to evidence competencies for the non-technical elements of the interview are all sound. We’d strongly advise against waiting until you’re called for an interview before you begin preparing – by then, time is against you.

If your interview is coming up soon, our Academy Interview & Group Exercise course is a great place to start – it’s online and self-paced, so you can work through the essentials in your own time, at whatever pace your timescale allows. And for fully immersive, hands-on preparation, our Airline Assessment Preparation Group Course is excellent prep, giving you a full day of interview and group exercise training, including assessed and de-briefed practical exercises.

One of the biggest mistakes we see people make is trying to dominate. Many candidates assume they need to take charge and talk the most to stand out – but that often counts against them. Assessors want to see collaboration, not control: listening, including quieter members, and helping the group succeed together score far higher than talking over everyone. Equally, saying too little can mean you’re not seen at all. Our coaching helps you find that balance, so you contribute meaningfully without overpowering the group.

Because our coaching is genuinely human-led and built on real recruiter insight. Every coaching session is one-to-one with a current airline pilot and experienced recruiter who understands exactly what’s being assessed – never AI, never generic content. Rather than tips or tricks, you’ll learn transferable techniques through our ‘Techniques Not Tip Offs’ approach that work for any group exercise, with any airline, anywhere in the world.

That’s completely normal – for many people it’s the most unfamiliar part of the whole process. The antidote is understanding: once you know how these exercises work and what’s being assessed, most of the anxiety falls away, because you’re no longer walking into the unknown. Our coaching is designed to build exactly that confidence, so instead of dreading the group exercise, you know how to approach it.
